POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Network Design Engineer is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks, methodologies, and practices for the corporation. This position is responsible for assisting with and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations, and equipment and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, costs, and schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
- Project delivery
- Equipment specification and procurement ● Research/studies.
- Technical design
- Network operations (T2/T3)
- Cisco network equipment
- Nokia network equipment
- Wireless network equipment (inside/outside plant)
- Inside/outside plant cable infrastructure
- General network architecture
- General network operations
- Legacy network/communications equipment.
- Learning - Learn and become familiar with assigned technical tasks, methodologies, and practices.
- Analysis - Perform technical and economic analysis of alternative solutions for project business cases and make recommendations on courses of action.
- Project Management - Prepare project plans, monitor costs and schedules, and initiate corrective action as appropriate.
- Construction Management - Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects and initiatives.
- Standards Development - Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based upon codes, technologies, and methodologies.
- Staff Direction - Provide direction to technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff.
- Technical Assistance - Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning, and operations.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
Education & Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specializing in electrical or electronic systems
- Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of
Saskatchewan OR Professional Engineering Designation (PEng)
- Cisco certification (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) and/or extensive experience with WDM technology, IP and IP/MPLS networks would be considered an asset.

- Experience planning facilities and providing design, construction, operations, commissioning, contract management and coordination of projects.

Desired Education/Certifications:
- Azure certifications related to Virtual Networks
Mandatory Experience:
- Previous experience to configure the network components such as Azure VNets, Azure Firewall, and secure connectivity to ensure secure and efficient traffic flow between on-premises resources and the Azure cloud environment.
Desired Experience:
- Hands-on experience with VNet setup and configuration, firewall configuration, secure network communications
