Facility Maintenance Technician I

This is custodial and grounds keeping work at the semi-skilled level.  Work includes performing routine cleaning of office buildings and community rooms; apartment turnovers; grounds keeping and pick-up; operating custodial and grounds keeping equipment; mixing proper amounts of water and chemicals for cleaning, sanitizing, and/or yard care solutions; and does related work as required.  Assignments are stable and routine in nature and are carried out in accordance with instruction and established routines.

  • Cleans walls, floors, carpets and other interior building components by washing, mopping, scrubbing, waxing and shampooing or vacuuming;
  • Dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures; wash windows;
  • Empties and cleans waste baskets and ashtrays;
  • Transports trash to disposal area;
  • Cleans and disinfects bathrooms and replenishes soap and paper supplies;
  • Operates a variety of custodial and grounds keeping equipment such as wet/dry mops, vacuums, scrubbers, carpet shampooers, buffers, brooms, ladders, brushes, trimmers, sheers, mowers, sprayers, etc.
  • Mixes and uses chemical solutions;
  • Sweeps sidewalks, shovels snow and picks-up trash;
  • Performs related work as required;
  • Assists maintenance staff in cleaning out residential units;
  • Sets up or takes down community rooms, lifts and carries furniture and equipment, etc.
  • Performs grounds keeping duties including mowing, spraying, pruning, edging, grass shearing, trimming, mulching, etc.
  • Inventories, orders, tracks, and safely and securely stores equipment and supplies.
  • Cleans exterior buildings
  • Uses vehicles when assigned, logs usage, processes receipts, and safely secures vehicles

  • Ability to lift and transport packages, equipment, & items up to 70 lbs and perform manual tasks.
