Join our team as a Senior Technical Writer to lead the development of comprehensive technical and user documentation for complex IT systems. You'll leverage your expertise in Azure cloud infrastructure, Java EE applications, and industry-standard tools like Power Designer, Visio, and Adobe Technical Communication Suite. This hybrid role (3 days onsite, 2 remote) requires strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to produce clear, accurate documentation, from architecture artefacts to user guides. Ideal for professionals with experience in technical writing, AODA compliance, and public sector environments who can translate technical concepts into accessible content for diverse audiences.

 

Description

Note: This contract will require the consultant to work from the office location 3 days per week with the remaining 2 days being worked remotely.

Responsibilities:

Creates professional technical project and user documentation, including systems and operational procedures

General Skills Experience in the creation of technical project and user documentation, including procedures at the specified experience level

Experience with a wide range of technical writing methods, tools and techniques and knowledge of industry standards and best practices

Knowledge and experience in developing on-line documentation

Knowledge and experience with at least one platform

Knowledge and experience with communications protocols

Knowledge and experience with tools for the creation, distribution and maintenance of project and user documentation

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; presentation skills; and interpersonal skills

Ability to communicate with cross functional teams (development, business, testers) and a wide range of audiences

Ability to create a quick start guide covering the main steps a user will follow

Ability to create a detailed configuration/administrative guide to users covering all details required

Experience and ability to create a glossary or list of terms and definitions

Experience with office automation suites, presentation tools, and at least one authoring package

Proficiency in English Knowledge and understanding of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and related regulations and standards Skilled at using standard technical writing tools such as Microsoft Office and/or Adobe Technical Communication Suite

·      Strong knowledge and experience with documentation tasks for large scale Java EE application design concepts such as security, scalability, reliability, and performance.

·      Experience in the creation and editing of technical project documents including architecture artefacts based on existing systems or design concepts from senior team members.

·      Experience with a wide range of technical writing methods, tools and techniques and knowledge of industry and government standards and best practices.

·      Experience and ability to create a glossary or list of terms and definitions Experience with office automation suites, presentation tools, and at least one authoring package.

·      Skilled at using standard technical writing tools such as Power Designer, Microsoft Visio, UML and/or Adobe Technical Communication Suite
