QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The required qualifications are listed below. Proof of certifications must be available upon request.
minimum of one (1) current certification from the list below is required for each ASL interpreter.
ASL Interpreter Certifications:
·National Interpreting Certification (NIC)
·NIC Advanced
·NIC Master
·National Association of the Deaf (NAD) III
·NAD IV
·NAD V
·Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) – Comprehensive Skills Certificate (CSC)
·RID – Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT). Both required.
·RID – Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI)
ASL interpreters are required to have proficiency in utilizing platforms like Zoom and Microsoft Teams to facilitate virtual meeting and events.
SERVICE DETAILS
·The Contractor must be available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. (PST), Monday through Friday with exception of State holidays. unless otherwise stated in the request for services.
·Current observed State holidays are: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President’s Day, Ceasar Chavez Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
·The length of each meeting will vary from 1 hour to 4 hours.
·Two (2) ASL interpreter will be required for each assignment.
·Contractor shall provide ASL interpreters to interpret spoken English to ASL and/or ASL to spoken English.
·The services will be provided on an “as needed” basis. OSDS does not guarantee the amount of work or services that may be requested from the Contractor.
SCHEDULING DETAILS
·OSDS shall request services by written email request.
·Contractor shall be notified by email of any changes prior to commencement of the proceeding.
·OSDS shall attempt to provide the contractor a standard notification of at least three (3) days’ notice to the Contractor, by email request for ASL services. The request shall indicate the nature of the event, the time, estimated duration of event, video conferencing platform, location, date (s), and related phone numbers, if applicable.
·No assignment may be scheduled for less than two (2) hours. Assignments can be scheduled and paid in 15-minute increments after the minimum two (2) hours.
· During the event, ASL interpreters may be requested to provide services past the anticipated time, in increments of 15 minutes, to reasonably accommodate the completion of the event.
·Contractor shall provide OSDS with the name, phone number and email address of the ASL interpreters at least 2 days before the event, providing the details of the method or equipment, if any, the ASL interpreters will be using prior to the event.
·ASL interpreters will participate in a pre-meet to ensure equipment and software functions properly prior to the event or on a date and time agreed upon by both parties upon OSDS request.
·Contractor must respond to the service request within twenty-four (24) hours of receipt to OSDS.
ASL INTERPRETER PERFORMANCE
·Contractor shall ensure the ASL Interpreter adheres to the following:
·Will wear business attire to OSDS events and meetings. Refrain from wearing items such as jeans, shorts, and tennis shoes.
·Will communicate any scheduling updates created during the event
