To support the next phase of the modernization strategy, Ontario Health is committed to migrate appropriate products to Azure Cloud platform and identifying opportunities to improve and mature existing processes both on cloud as IAAS and PAAS from database administration and cloud engineering perspective.

 

Must haves:
At least 5-7 years of proven working experience as a SQL Server database administrator (Azure and on-prem)
At least 2 year proven working experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Managed Instance and Azure SQL database
Must have extensive experience with SQL server 2012/14/16/19 on Windows and Linux operating system
At least 2-4 years of experience managing Azure SQL dedicated pool and Server less
Demonstrated understanding of performance tuning and analysis in an Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server environments
MS Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900T00), Microsoft Azure Data Fundamentals(DP-900) and/or Administering Microsoft Azure SQL Solutions(DP-300) certification

 

Responsibilities:

Creates physical database designs and operates and administers the database management system (DBMS) including database optimization, capacity planning, installation and migration, database design, performance tuning, backup and recovery

Demonstrated and expert level knowledge with: 
Current experience with SQL Management studio. Proactively monitor systems activity on a daily basis and respond to issues. 
Responsible for the development, execution and analysis of database expansions, reorganizations and purging.
Planning long range needs for SQL database administration. Developing and executing SQL database verification processes on a regular basis and analysis of database capacity statistics
SQL Servers and new servers builds. Providing technical and operational guidance and leadership to business representatives.
Responsible for the architecture and support of all databases, development testing. 
Responsible for execution of SQL database backup and recovery processes 
Participation in problem analysis and resolution, for example, deadlocks, data problems, access times, application recoveries, etc.

Deliverables
Deliverables Include:
Responsible to support the installation, configuration, security, operation, and maintenance of SQL Servers for new servers builds with special focus on SQL Managed Instance
Responsible for the development, execution and analysis of database expansions, re-organization and purging of SQL 2019
Participates in the long-term technical strategy and architecture for the Data Warehouse and Analytics Data Hub
Develops systems and processes to monitor data quality or integrity, diagnose problems and implement solutions
Provides expertise in the support of complex cross-platform database migrations and data governance activities
Responsible of SQL high availability options (Log Shipping, DB Mirroring, DB Clustering)
Resolves and debugs complex reporting and analytic application problems
Participates in the creation and maintenance of the Enterprise Data Strategy Plan
Responsible for managing the SQL databases on Azure Cloud, SQL Always-On and Clustering
Provides knowledge and direction assistance to support a hybrid environment of on premise and cloud-based database environments
Configure, manage, monitor and maintain database server performance, health, availability and security
Provide feedback and recommendations to management for best course of action where needed
Participates in problem analysis and resolution, for example tuning of sql query, deadlocks, data problems, access times, application recoveries, etc
Performs software review, evaluation, recommendations, design and implementation for database management tools
Leads database disaster recovery design, implementation and monitoring
Patching, and database backup including testing and execution of SQL and Oracle database backup and recovery processes
Provide guidance and reference to Tier 1 and Tier 2 Service Desk resources, as well as Tier 3 team members

Ontario Health assets including laptops and related equipment cannot be removed from the province of Ontario without prior written approval from Ontario Health.

Assignment Type: This position is currently listed as "Hybrid". The resource under this request will be required to work onsite as per Hiring Manager sole discretion.

 

Knowledge Transferred Details:
The Candidate will ensure full knowledge transfer is provided to the Ontario Health team before end of engagement.
The candidate must provide installation, design, development, and migration related documentation as part of Knowledge transfer.
The candidate will consult and collaborate with Ontario Health’s Remedy SMEs prior to making any important design and build decisions.
The candidate will conduct code/configuration review with Ontario Health Remedy SMEs for any code/configuration built by the candidate.
All code, configuration, and documentation built by the candidate as part of this engagement is considered Ontario Health material.
The candidate must complete all Knowledge Transfer at the latest two weeks before the end of the contract and it must be signed off by Ontario Health manager.
