Wastewater Field Technician
General Summary:
The wastewater field technician position is responsible for collecting samples from various wastewater treatment facilities, throughout Harris County, using standard collection practices to ensure the integrity of the sample.  This position will be responsible for collection of samples, inventory management, sample documentation, and sample delivery verification.
 
Duties & Responsibilities:
Collecting wastewater samples and programming sampling equipment. Responsible for sampling truck maintenance and disinfection of all wastewater equipment/supplies. Managing pick-up times to ensure samples arrive at laboratory during designated times. Building and sustain partnerships with various MUDS within Harris County. Driving to designated wastewater treatment facilities to collect wastewater samples.  Documenting collection date and initialing sample collection bottles. Responsible for updating sampling data, scanning sampling documents, and following sampling procedures. Delivering samples promptly to the required laboratory. Complete chain of custody forms. Ensuring all samples are accounted for, requiring signatures at each point of transfer.
 
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree from a accredited college or university with a major in public health, environmental sciences, microbiology, engineering, or related field. Experience:  Extensive knowledge of Wastewater Treatment Plants and Municipal Utility Districts.  Experience with sample collection techniques preferred. Experience with wastewater collection or environmental health is preferred. Basic knowledge of all Microsoft programs, data reporting, GIS software, such as ArcGIS or QGIS. A bachelors or equivalent is required. 
 
Work Environment:
Any inclement of weather, 95% field outdoors
 
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 150 lbs., drive for long periods of time, bending/standing/walking frequently, perform in any inclement of weather i.e. (rain, summer, etc.)
