Job Title: Buyer (Specialist)
Job Location: Houston, TX
Work Schedule: 40 hours/week (standard business hours)
Work Model: Hybrid – in-office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday

Role Summary

The Buyer will play a key role in supporting procurement activities aligned with project strategies, category management goals, and Supply Chain policies. The successful candidate will manage supplier interactions, issue purchase orders, resolve functional issues, and lead or support purchasing projects of varying complexity. This role requires strong ERP experience, procurement best practices knowledge, and stakeholder engagement skills across both Canada and the U.S.

Core Responsibilities

  • Execute end-to-end procurement activities including RF(x), commercial bid evaluations, purchase/release order creation, and supplier performance management
  • Act as a liaison between internal business units and stakeholders including Supply Chain leadership, IS/IT, warehouse teams, and accounts payable
  • Ensure all procurement activity aligns with corporate policy, category strategy, and project requirements
  • Identify and act on cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
  • Generate procurement reports and manage supplier data (including SQR and master data updates)
  • Support and implement procurement-related technology and system enhancements
  • Track and analyze supplier performance and drive value through relationships
  • Resolve procurement-related issues (technical, systemic, or process-driven)
  • Participate in team huddles, continuous improvement initiatives, and procurement project meetings
  • Maintain clear documentation of procurement activity and contribute to knowledge sharing
  • Demonstrate awareness of Incoterms, tax jurisdictions, payment terms, and related commercial considerations

Must-Have Qualifications

  • Proven experience working in an ERP-supported procurement environment (at a specialist level or equivalent)
  • Strong knowledge of procure-to-pay (P2P) processes and purchasing systems
  • Familiarity with supplier qualification, bid evaluation, and contract award practices
  • Ability to resolve technical/systemic issues and manage purchasing projects
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of procurement documentation standards, terms, and supplier relationship frameworks

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • SAP experience
  • Experience supporting implementation of procurement technologies and tools
  • Ability to identify cost drivers and efficiencies within procurement categories
  • Familiarity with eCommerce procurement workflows and Approved Manufacturer processes
  • Strong report development skills (daily/weekly/ad hoc procurement reporting)
