Network Design Engineer
Position and/or Project Description:
Senior Network Architect with 6+ years experience in network architecture and design. The
position's responsibilities include the architecture, design, and implementation of network and
cybersecurity infrastructures. The position will play an essential role in furthering the
development and maturity of SaskPower's network infrastructure over the next two years.
The primary role of the position is network architecture, design, implementation, project
leadership, and level 3 support. The technologies and solutions within the scope of the role will
be directly aligned to SaskPower's network and cybersecurity priorities. They may include
switching, routing, firewalls, network management, network automation, scripting, and cloud.
The Network Design Engineer is accountable to research, develop and implement tasks,
methodologies, and practices for the corporation. This position is responsible for assisting with
and/or preparing technical studies, business cases, designs, specifications, tender evaluations,
and equipment and construction drawings. This position will prepare project plans, costs, and
schedules and provide contract management and project coordination services, ensuring
alignment with departmental and corporate strategic goals and objectives.
Mandatory Education/Certifications:
NOTE: An Engineering degree is not required for this posting.
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or equivalent
● Cisco CCIE and CCDE certifications
● TOGAF certification
● Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering specializing in electrical or electronic systems
● Eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of
Saskatchewan OR Professional Engineering Designation (PEng)
● Cisco certification (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE) and/or extensive experience with WDM technology,
IP and IP/MPLS networks would be considered an asset.
● 6+ years demonstrated experience designing complex network solutions including: Data
Center networks, Enterprise LAN/WAN, and Cloud environments.
● 6+ years demonstrated experience operating complex networks, including routers, switches,
firewalls, load balancers, etc.
● Strong project leadership, documentation, and communication skills.
● Demonstrated expert-level knowledge of networking systems, technologies and protocols,
including how to apply them while solving business problems.
Preferred Experience: Please ensure that the candidate has 2 to 3 years of prior
experience working on government projects or within a government environment.
Desired Experience:
● Network management (DCIM, DDI, NMS, others)
● Programming/scripting (Python, Perl, other programming languages)
● Automation (Ansible, Netmiko, Puppet, Chef, others)
● Cybersecurity (NAC, NGFW, Proxy, WAF, DDoS, IPS/IDS)

corrective action as appropriate.
● Construction Management - Provide direction for construction and commissioning projects
and initiatives.
● Standards Development - Develop criteria, guidelines, standards, and new practices based
upon codes, technologies, and methodologies. Staff Direction - Provide direction to
technologists, technicians, consultants, and management staff.
● Technical Assistance - Provide technical assistance for construction, commissioning, and
operations.
