Payroll Analyst - US Tax

This position works as a key team member within the North America payroll team to manage the biweekly on and off cycle payroll, payroll tax reconciliations, and other technical and non-technical issues in North America (Canada, US and Puerto Rico). This role will have a primary accountability for oversite and management of payroll tax and will liaise across teams to address and resolve client needs and service level impacts. This position reports to the Payroll Operations Manager.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages monthly and quarterly tax reconciliations, reconciles tax withholdings to tax remittances
• Drives to achieve consistent payroll compliance with local, state, and federal tax jurisdictions
• Partners with internal teams to ensure payroll is performing in compliance with tax regulations
• Runs and analyses biweekly reports and resolved variances
• Analyzes and works with vendor on W2's and Canada year-end forms and corrections
• Manages quarter-end and year-end tax reviews and processes
• Partners with the Payroll Specialist and Global Mobility to ensure accuracy for associates involved in relocation or global assignments, quarterly and annual relocation analysis and processing
• Manages and resolves inquiries in an efficient and timely manner consistent with operating principles
• Serves as the go-to person for payroll compliance issues and escalations
• Leads and participates in payroll process improvement projects
• Maintains active partnership cross functionally to ensure alignment across teams
• Investigates and resolves payroll tax inquiries
• Other duties as assigned
SPECIAL SKILLS
• Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel especially the use of v-lookups and pivot tables
• Proficient skills in system proficiency, employee data management, reporting and metrics
• Proficient skills in vendor management
• Extremely detail-orientated and accurate
• Proven relationship building and conflict resolution skills
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education • Four-year degree BA/BS in Business or Accounting
Experience • Minimum 4 years dedicated Payroll experience with a large company of 5,000 employees or more; strongly prefer experience in SAP and interfaces with external Payroll vendors
• Multi-state payroll experience with understanding of state specific employee tax withholdings
• Knowledge and understanding of payroll practices and principles
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of information
• Ability to perform work with accuracy and attention to detail
• Strong mathematical skills with ability to research and problem-solve
• Ability to communicate in a precise and clear manner
• Strong interpersonal skills; able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of internal/external contacts
• Self-motivated, ability to work independently and self-manage
• Desired - Knowledge of payroll policy and practice across US, Puerto Rico and Canada; experience in process documentation and improvement
Knowledge and Skills • Required: Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis in Excel and Word, including advanced proficiency; enterprise HRIS (preferably SAP) with interface to external payroll vendor such as ADP.
