Software Developer - Full Stack - Senior

Description

Responsibilities Design, implement, and continuously expand data pipelines by performing extraction, transformation, and loading activities. Required to translate technical systems specifications into working, tested applications. This includes developing detailed programming specifications, writing and/or generating code, compiling data-driven programs, maintaining, and conducting unit tests. Resolves and troubleshoots technical problems which arise during the use and operation of software packages, including technical assistance in implementation, conversion and migrations. Hybrid arrangement: 3 days in office, 2 days remote. Primary office location (where most of the project team works) is Peterborough - 300 Water St. Alternate location is Toronto, 40 St. Clair Ave; Other LRC office locations may be acceptable and other arrangements may be negotiated with the hiring manager.

 

The SNOWplus enhancement project requires a full stack senior software developer who will be responsible to fix some issues and code new features and functionality . The developer will be on a team with an LRC PM, business subject matter experts and additional technical resources.

Work will also include remediation of accessibility issues to meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards - Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 Level AA

The SNOWplus web application is developed using PHP and MySQL. The application uses a third-party vendor API (KiWIS) that uses html queries and JSON responses. Microsoft Azure DevOps with Github repository will be used to manage the project work. Code is deployed manually (no CI/CD) using SFTP server upload and following change management processes.

 

In addition to responsibilities mentioned in the previous description field, the candidate should have demonstrated experience as a lead software developer using the following specific skills

  • PHP coding (essential) including knowledge of refactoring code due to upgrading from v 7.x to 8.x (35%)
    • work with APIs to code browser queries that retrieve data and parse JSON responses to present data to the user or feed downstream processes
    • Write data in alternate formats (such as CSV)
  • MySQL (essential) and phpMyAdmin, including experience refactoring code due to upgrading from v 5.x to 8.x (35%)
    • e.g., Write database queries using SQL and use result sets to perform business logic
  • Web development/ UI/Accessibility (15%)
    • HTML, CSS, JavaScript
    • WCAG 2.0 Level AA
  • Development Tools (15%)
    • Visual Studio Code (or similar IDE)
    • Azure DevOps (familiarity with boards and git repository usage)

The candidate should be able to show that they have this experience with examples.
